Dr. Radhouan Ben-Hamadou is an environmental engineer and oceanographer with over 20 years of experience in marine environmental management, resource sustainability and policy-driven research. As the Director of Research and Policy Development at Earthna, he leads initiatives to bridge academic research with actionable policy solutions, driving sustainability in Qatar and beyond.
Dr. Ben-Hamadou holds an engineering degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture, an MSc in Biological Oceanography, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Pierre and Marie Curie University (Sorbonne Universities, France). He has held notable leadership roles, including serving as Deputy Director of the UNESCO International Centre for Coastal Ecohydrology, where he spearheaded strategic research and international collaborations for ecosystem resilience and water resources management in the coastal zone.
At Qatar University, where he served as an Associate Professor for over a decade, Dr. Ben-Hamadou led several impactful projects in collaboration with major industries and government agencies in Qatar. These include the whale sharks monitoring and conservation project, which focused on the protection of this iconic species and its habitat, the Ecosystem based management plan for coral reefs and seagrass beds in Qatar and the Rig-to-Reef project for the sustainable decommissioning of obsolete offshore platforms. The latter initiative emphasized biodiversity conservation and fisheries sustainability while promoting decarbonization and cost-cutting solutions for the oil and gas sector.
Prior to joining Earthna, he was a Senior Sustainability Advisor at TotalEnergies, where he led projects in biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and innovative approaches to addressing the unique environmental challenges of arid and hydrocarbon-rich regions.
